Amazon to open to hire 1,000 in Livonia

Amazon to open a $90 million distribution center in Livonia on former General Motors Corps property in the near future.

The plan includes hiring 1,000 people to serve customers across the Midwest. Amazon already employs 277 people in Michigan. The new jobs would include starting salaries of $28,500, according to news reports.

The distribution center would boost the job market in the area, and would create additional demand on housing, pushing prices up.
